Period poverty is a global issue affecting those who don’t have access to the safe, hygienic menstrual products they need, and who are unable to manage their periods with dignity, sometimes due to community stigma and sanction. It doesn't just refer to those who have no access to menstrual products; in some cases, limited access to these products leads to prolonged use of the same tampons or pads, which can cause infection.

Johannesburg – July 8, 2019. Refilwe Ledwaba announced that she is among its second cohort of Obama Foundation African Leaders, 200 rising leaders from 45 countries around the continent who will convene in Johannesburg July 10-14 and participate in a year-long leadership development program.
The July cold-front with its below zero temperatures and ice-cold winds was not enough to keep 100 keen school girls from getting up early every morning to embrace the day’s adventures on the 2018 Aerospace and STEM camp, hosted by the Girl Fly Programme Africa Foundation (GFPA) in partnership with Girls Invent Tomorrow and Ladies that UX.
We had so much fun interacting with 200 girls (Grade 8 to 12) from around Bethlehem in the Free State area at the airfield.
